Japanese Americans Encouraged To Learn Japanese - Heres Why
Japanese Americans Encouraged To Learn Japanese - Here's WhyThere are many new Japanese Americans in college and high school that enjoy studying subjects like wwii research paper topics. This interest can be traced back to events that took place on the west coast of the United States in the mid-nineteen fifties, when Japan sent a diplomatic representative to speak at the University of California at Berkeley. While there he spoke on behalf of Japan on scientific research paper topics about the ability of Japanese languages to be the basis for an international language education. It was a watershed event in the history of American Japan studies, in the sense that it marked the first time that the Japanese government directly intervened in the affairs of a foreign nation.A series of events on the west coast of America during the fifties and sixties resulted in many immigrant Japanese, feeling that they were no longer wanted in their adopted country. They, in turn, went looking for opport unities elsewhere. After several years of searching, a number of them made their way to Western Washington State and took up residence. These young men and women had developed a deep affinity for Western cultures and traditions. They had also adopted Western ideas, and the atmosphere that they found among the Native tribes was quite appealing. The culture shock they faced on the west coast of America did not deter them from continuing their search for an education and opportunity elsewhere.Among the topics that interested these young men was the role of Japanese in history and tradition. They found that the University of California had a Japanese Studies program which involved conducting research in this area. This prompted these young men to apply for admission to the program. As they searched for twin research paper topics, it became clear that Japanese Americans had a special place in their hearts for Japanese traditions and art. This interest in Japanese cultures became a driving force that led them to become involved in various committees, organizations, and projects involving their cultural heritage. One of the reasons why these young men chose Japanese cultural themes as the topic for their wwii research paper topics was because it became clear to them that Japan was still regarded as a 'backwater' after World War II. There were few if any opportunities for Japanese Americans to pursue their educational ambitions. After their involvement in the academic program sponsored by the University of California, Japan presented them with an opportunity to explore this part of their heritage in a different context. It was quite rewarding to see how their passion for Japanese culture paved the way for further studies and academic study.
